MIRROR DON’T LIKE UGLY
Original poem by Gaudys Laxury
Entered a subway car looking for a seat;
one that’s neat.
All were taken, whisper a sigh, because it just too unfair,
but wait, found an open spot at the end hoping she would share.
A two-seater at the corner, the perfect spot,
and just one seat is needed to sit down and plot.
Asked the woman to kindly move her purse, only to be greeted with rolling eyes and glares.
She was gazing at her mirror with makeup in hand,
I was carrying two bags and she truly wanted me to stand!
It does not matter how much makeup you put on and what touchup is done;
the mirror reflects all, no heart, simply none.
Is this the world we live in—a lack of compassion and kindness?
Narcissism matters and unfortunate blindness.
With a blink of an eye humanity was restored!
Another human being, football player tall.
This kind gentle giant offered his seat without blinking an eye.
A quick simple act, as sweet as apple pie.
I didn’t stay quiet and told the soulless makeup girl
—you have a bad attitude!
The mirror followed lead and spoke the truth to say
—you are just plain rude!
As I walked out the station door doubting humankind.
I then remembered Mr. Football man’s wholesome act coming to mind.
It was enough to hit rewind, stepping out the subway car, to look up at the sky, clear with the suns ray.
He was one of a kind as he last yells out to me—have a great day!!
