2026 Strada Easel January Challenge for 31 Days

For 31 days, I showed up. In January, I participated in another Strada easel challenge. For thirty-one consecutive days, I created either a small painting or drawing. I made no excuses and did not overthink. I just drew and painted.

What I didn’t anticipate was how much the discipline would matter more than the outcome. Some days the brush moved effortlessly. Other days it felt forced, almost resistant which made me switch to drawing to accomplish the task. The point was not perfection, but rather presence.

Working at a smaller scale required a different kind of attention. Every mark carried weight, and every color had intention. There was no room to hide inside large gestures because the process became an exercise in restraint, patience, and clarity.

The challenge also reminded me of something simple and easy to forget. Art does not wait for ideal conditions. Some days I was fatigued and feared the outcome would be terrible. My mind lingered in a dark abyss, thinking the creation had to be perfect.

However, the challenge was to stay consistent, errors and all. Even on days when motivation was low, I showed up. Staying on course quietly and repeatedly built momentum, and the process allowed me to continue the rhythm of daily creation.

Each piece from this series holds a fragment of that month. Some works felt contemplative, some unsettled. Others surprised me entirely, and for a few I quietly patted myself on the back for posting. Together, they document the rhythm of daily practice.

All of the original works are available directly through this website, GLaxArts. Fine art prints are also available in my INPRNT shop for those who prefer a different format or scale.

More than anything, this challenge reaffirmed that creative discipline is a form of devotion. Not dramatic or loud. Just steady flow that compounds over time.
